CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif., June 20, 2012 – Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company, the industry’s largest manufacturer of refrigerated trailers and a leading manufacturer of dry freight vans, flatbeds, and Tautliner® curtainsided trailers is pleased to announce new manufacturing enhancements made to the USS-120A, Utility’s advanced aerodynamic side skirt.
“As a result of our continuing commitment to engineering the most advanced technologies, we have made two design changes to the USS-120A side skirt,” said Craig Bennett, Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing for Utility. Introduced in August 2011, the USS-120A is U.S. EPA SmartWay® verified as an “Advanced Side Skirt”. The recent changes made to the USS-120A side skirt include a new Utility designed “spring” attachment added to the front of the side skirts and further enhancements to the manufacturing design at the bottom of the side skirt.
The USS-120A side skirt is now securely bolted by a “spring” attachment to the support leg wingplate. The reinforcement will allow enough of the forward edge of the side skirt material to seamlessly engage the slip joint. To further enhance the durability of the USS-120A, Utility’s galvanized high tensile steel braces that connect to the side skirt’s crossmembers have been vertically moved up by 5.75’’. This change will providemore material below the brace, which will allow the side skirt to bend and flex more freely on impact.
“Since 1914, Utility has been committed to the design and build of the highest quality trailers in the industry. As the demand for fuel efficiency grows, we will pursue the most advanced technologies for delivering fuel economy. Our recent advancements to the design of the USS-120A side skirt is just one more example of that commitment,” added Jeff Bennett, Vice President of Engineering.
