Utility Trailer 4000D-X® Dry Van Offers Economy and Safety of
Single Tire and Wide Track System
CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif., June 26, 2006 -¬ Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company, a leading manufacturer of dry freight vans, reefers, flatbeds, and Tautliner® curtainsided trailers, announced that it offers an optional single tire and Wide Track System for increased fuel economy and safety on its 4000D-X® thin-wall dry van (www.4000dx.com).
The 4000D-X® dry freight van is ideally suited to take full advantage of the weight savings, safety and increased fuel economy of Michelin’s new generation wide single tire, the X-One®. The X-One® can be integrated into Utility Trailer’s optional “Wide Track System.” This wide track suspension system includes a Hendrickson® air ride slider with 6″ wider suspension centers and 6″ longer axles. This system can be used with either “zero” offset aluminum wheels or with the new “zero” offset Motorwheel steel wheel.
The 4000D-X® patented thin-wall design was engineered to compete squarely in the thin-wall segment by forging an aluminum exterior skin with 80K steel interior panels separated by a core material. The 4000D-X® 101 version provides a full 101 ¼” of inside width from lining to lining and 101” from wearband to wearband with 4,085 cubic feet of productivity. The 4000D-X® 100 version has deeper side posts with increased stiffness for bulge loads. Pre-painted white galvanized, high strength interior lining panels provide a Snag Free? surface and a full 100” of inside width from wearband to wearband.
The thin-wall segment is comprised of dry vans that increase the inside width within the same exterior dimensions. The 4000D-X® represents Utility Trailer’s thin-wall dry van which accounted for approximately 45% of Utility’s dry van production in 2005, compared to about 5% in 2001.
“We are dedicated to finding the best solutions affecting fuel economy and safety to deliver added productivity to our customers,” exclaimed Craig Bennett, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing, Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company. “This commitment to finding innovative solutions for today’s owner-operator and fleet extends to our test track where we put new ideas and technology to the test to see if it merits the Utility nameplate. The Michelin® X-One® single tire and the Utility Wide Track System are just two innovations that our testing has validated and we have implemented.”
