CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif., May 15, 2012 – Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company, the industry’s largest manufacturer of refrigerated trailers and a leading manufacturer of dry freight vans, flatbeds, and Tautliner® curtainsided trailers is pleased to announce that it has received the Liberty Mutual Insurance Safety Commendation Award presented to Utility’s Clearfield, Utah manufacturing plant.
Liberty Mutual Insurance presented Steve Smith, Utility’s Clearfield Plant Manager with this award in recognition of the plant’s commitment to employee safety. “Such an award never happens without a strong catalyst and safety advocate like you, good management support, front line supervisors that promote safety and employees that live it day by day,” said Rob Gardner, Technical Consultant for Liberty Mutual, who presented the award.
Dennis Wilson, Utility’s Clearfield Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager stated “the plant achieved a DART (Days Away, Restricted and Transferred) rate of 1.5, which is 58% lower than the trailer manufacturing industry average of 3.5.” DART rates are calculated by factoring the number of hours worked relative to the number of accidents at the plant resulting in days away, restrictions or transfers. Low occurrences of accidents result in lower DART rates.
“This is a significant achievement by our Clearfield plant and we are very proud of our employees and our strong management team for continually being committed to a safe work environment,” said Bob Griffis, Corporate EHS Manager for Utility Trailer Manufacturing.
Utility currently operates five trailer manufacturing facilities across the United States. The Clearfield, Utah and Marion, Virginia plants manufacture Utility’s #1 selling refrigerated trailer.
